I liked the fence! I had one like it that I had to take down because it was over the property line and the city put in a sidewalk, and I always missed how it "framed" the house.
I like having the yard fenced in. the fence itself needed some work. but it does look nice in the first photo. also, without the fence there is more kid access to everything.

I dunno, I kinda prefer it.
Will the new beam be in the same location as the old one or will it be more in the center of the roof pitch?
